The gentle afternoon breeze blew through the hair of a tall, slender brunette. Nicolette sat on the porch of her simple surburban home, playing her guitar and experimenting with her songwriting. She hadn't been in the United States for very long. Nicolette was born and raised in Montreal, and she later became a very well known Quebecois singer/songwriter. Nicolette had a dream of singing to a broader range, though, so she started taking English lessons because before she had only sang and spoke in French. At the ripe age of 38, she packed her bags and moved to the US.
Nicolette quietly strummed the strings of her guitar as she hummed the melody to the song she was writing. It was one of the English songs she had been writing, called Ten Days. She had been taking English lessons for some time now, so she thought her English speaking and writing had improved, though she still bore an accent. She quietly started to sing some of the lyrics. "At the doorway of my heart.....all the leaves are falling down...." The words were released from her mouth, and softly blew in the wind. She played with the melody a little more on her guitar, while daydreaming about performing infront of a big crowd. ((Meh, I know a lot of it is her backstory, I just wanted to give her some depth as to why she is how she is))

You'd think a succesful model would live in an extravagent home with large windows, a wonderful view of the ocean, and a giant piano in the living room. But Hélène had none of that in her home, except for the giant piano, she enjoyed playing it. She didn't like living expensively except for the few expensive items in her home and her car. Which she was currently pulling into her driveway. It was a Citroën C6, imported from France, steering wheel on the right side and everything. It was a midnight black with silver trim, it was the only thing that showed her wealth on the outside of her house.
She was just getting home from a photoshoot, her mind still a bit blank from the hours of posing. Many people thought you just had to have the looks to model, but Hélène found you needed another talent. The talent of keeping yourself from going completely insane while doing multiple poses under hot lights, lots of wind, uncomfortable clothing and dick photographers. Luckily Hélène had this talent.
She pulled into her driveway, turned the car off and sat there for a minute. Her body ached slightly but she was ok, she just needed a seconds rest. With a deep sigh she pulled herself out of her car. The wind was blowing slightly, bringing the sturmming of a guitar to her ears. She knew the woman nextdoor was a muscian and Hélène was just curious enough to check this out. She slowly walked across the womans lawn to get to the front door.
Once she came into view she saw the older woman was indeed playing on a guitar. "Oh, sorry, didn't mean to interupt or anything," Hélène said quickly when the woman noticed her. She was just curious about where the music had been coming from, this woman played it, mystery solved gang

The melody of the song comforted Nicolette in ways nothing else could. Just sitting there, playing her guitar and singing helped her relieve stress. And with the past she had, she defanitly needed some stress relieved. She kept playing as she sang the chorus. "Ten days have come and gone....ten days and i'm all alone.....and all that I can do is pray, and pray...." She let her stress flow out of her system with each word she released.
Hearing something approaching her house, Nicolette didn't notice at first. She was too caught up in her music to notice anything. However, when she heard the person speak, she decided to stop playing for a moment and look up. The woman looked in her 20's, and attractive. Maybe a model or something Nicolette thought as she looked at the woman. She put her guitar down and smiled at the woman. "Oh, no, it's alright. No harm done. I'm Nicolette Lesueur, pleasure to meet you." Her Quebecois accent wrapped around each word she said, as she extended her hand out.

"Hey, yeah, k," Hélène said, stumbling over her words. Outside of work she wasn't a very good people person, she could fake it well at events and stuff but in real life, no way. Hélène sighed under her breath and walked up the walk to the woman and shook the womans extended hand. Hélène had lived long enough in the United States to have completely banish the French accent from her voice but she could bring up at a moments notice.
The woman's accent was interesting, a bit French sounding but more... foreign. Like an Australian would sound familer to a British person but still different. The woman had to be Québécoise, since she sounded like she would speak French fluently. "I'm Hélène Beauvilliers," She said introducing herself, pronouncing her name in her French accent but quickly dropping out of it to ask, "So, are you a singer or is it just a pass time or... you know, what?"

Nicolette brushed a piece of hair out of her face, still smiling. As Helene walked over, she got out of her seat and stood up, brushing some wrinkles out of her shirt. She shook Helene's hand as Helene shook Nicolette's hand. She then put her hand back down to her side, and sat back down, pushing her guitar and notebook more towards her, incase Helene wanted to sit down.
Nicolette was a fairly social person. Growing up with a big family, she always liked to talk and be social, especially when meeting new people. This was a perfect opportunity for her to meet a new friend. When Helene said her full name, Nicolette wondered if Helene was possible a native of France or Quebec, judging also by the way she said her name. When she asked her if she was a singer, Nicolette gave a warm smile and nodded. "Yes, I was singer back in Quebec. I sang only in French, though. Recently I move down to the US to try and start an international career."

Hélène could tell the woman meant for her to sit down next to her, possibly to chit-chat but she would feel way too uncomfortable to just sit there. So she stayed standing, looking even more awkward then she felt. She was still wearing a dress from the modeling shoot so she did stick out a bit from the ordinary residents of the neighborhood.
"Hey, interesting," Hélène said, with a bit more emphasis then she meant to. She made a gesture towards the north, or where she thought north was, and said, "I did a few shoots up in Quebec. Interesting place. The French Australia we called it, cause, you know, French people don't like being called Québécois..." She trailed off slightly, relizing how stupid and utterly rude she sounded.
She could play this all perfectly if this were an event for models, she never got how she oculd do that. She could easily tlak to some of richest people in the world but she couldn't talk to people who lived next door to her? What kind of spaz was she? A reclusive spaz, that's what. She rarely socialized outside of the modeling circuit, so maybe that hampered her abilities.

Nicolette noticed when Helene didn't sit down. She hoped that she hadn't been overfriendly, because she knew sometimes she had that tendancy. She had the tendancy to be too kind and to always try and keep conversation going. It was just how she was brought up. She crossed her legs, and put her hands on her lap, listening to Helene.
When she mentioned the shoots in Quebec, she nodded intentivly. Her inference on Helene being a model was correct, and she wasn't suprised. Her clothing was a little too fancy for a calm afternoon in the suburbs. When Helene mentioned the French Australia, she giggled a little. She didn't find it really offensive, she found it sort of funny. Nicolette learned not to take many things offensivly, especially when the person seemed like they didn't mean to be rude. "French Australia, never heard that one before." She smiled warmly.

Hélène was glad the woman didn't seem to take anything personally. From the stories her mother used to tell, the world outside of France was uncivilized, and the people who weren't rich and famous even more uncivilized. She was glad she never bought into those stories, mostly because to Hélène, France was too civilized. Too much order could drive a person insane.
"Yeah, it's a little French joke. France French, not that you're not French. Québécois," Hélène said, still babbling. "Uh, anyway, would you like to come over to my house, maybe? Cup of coffee, tea, soda, water, whatever?" She asked. She had never invited anyone over to her house. The only people who had been in her house beside herself had been the movers. It was kind of like sacred domain for Hélène.

Nicolette smiled again, closing her notebook so the pages didn't fly everywhere. From what she saw so far, Helene seem like a very nice, but nervous, person. Helene defanitly seemed nervous for some reason. Because Nicolette was very social, she had no idea why she could be nervous about anything.
She nodded when she heard Helene talk about the French joke thing, and giggled when she seemed to be getting nervous. "It's alright, I understand." She listened when she was asked to come over to her house, and she nodded. "Sure, i'd love that. Let me just take my guitar and notebook, so I don't have to go put them back." She picked up her guitar and notebook, and stood up

Hélène nodded as the woman said that she'd carry along her things. That was alright with Hélène, as long as the woman didn't leave them at her place. It would be the woman's fault. And why couldn't she think of the woman as Nicolette? She always found it hard to place a person with a name, she could remember them but she never liked using them when she thought. It was always 'the woman' or 'the man' etc, etc. She could never personalize things could she?
Hélène waved a hand, leading the way to her house. "Please excuse my house, it's a bit dark. You know, lot of wood floors, dark walls, etc, etc," She shrugged and continued. "I'm not a dark brooding person, promise. I just perfer the dark woods and all that, it's pretty," She said and smiled at the woman. Nervousness never seemed to leave Hélène. Dear god, she could take pictures while nearly nude but she couldn't have a normal conversation. She needed a psychiatrist.

Nicolette followed Helene, guitar and notebook in hand. As she was walking, she left the breeze flow freely through her hair, loving the feeling of it. Helene still seemed nervous, but Nicolette thought it would be rude to ask her that. She didn't want her to feel offended if she asked something like that, and it turned out she was suffering from some huge emotional trauma. So she felt it was best to just keep her mouth shut and follow her to her house.
When she walked in, she noticed that it was a bit dark. She heard Helene talk about how her house is dark, and she nodded, smiling. "I like it, it's very classy." She walked towards the couch, and sat down, setting her guitar and notebook close down by her side. Nicolette looked at Helene. "So, when did you move here?"

Hélène nodded slightly as the woman complimented her home. "Uh, thanks, my housemates not in right now, so I suppose that's lucky," She said, glancing around. No, she wouldn't be, but she should have noticed when she pulled into the driveway. She was just absent minded apperently. She sighed as she led the woman into her kitchen.
The kitchen was just as dark as the rest of the house, the counter tops were black granite, and the cabniets were a dark red cherry wood. On the island in the kitchen sat a small bowel which help Hélène's anti-inflamatory and pain killer medication. She thought nothing of the multiple pill bottles as she turned towards the other woman.
"So, what would you like to drink? I got water, soda, tea, coffee, even some wine if that's you thing," She said, giving the woman a small smile as she checked the refrigerator. She was a slight drinker, not an alcoholic since she could go through the week without a drink. She was more of a restful drinker, if she needed to settle her nerves, she drank. She also knew she ignored the womans question about how long she had lived here, sure it was only a small thing but to Hélène, it was personal.

Nicolette crossed her legs, and nodded as she listened to Helene talk. She heard her mention a housemate, and raised her eyebrows in curiousity. She never had any roommates, except in college, and that wasn't the best experience of her life. Nicolette was interested by the woman. She was puzzled as to why she seemed so nervous, and she wanted to find out more. She was born morbidly curious, it was a curse of Nicolette's.
When Helene got up to go to the kitchen, Nicolette got up and followed her. She walked into the kitchen, and looked around. It looked very classy and nice, like the living room was. She leaned against a counter, taking in everything. When she was asked what she'd like to drink, she looked at Helene. "Some soda would be great, thank you. Whatever kind you have, doesn't matter. It seems to be all I drink these days" She smiled, laughing a little.

Hélène gave a quick nod and pulled a soda out. It was a Coke, one of the few sodas Hélène actually liked. She wasn't much for sodas but Coke was one she absolutly loved. She walked over to Nicolette and handed her the drink. "Sorry, only soda I got, but everyone seems to like Coke," She gave a small shrug and returned to the fridge. She pulled out a bottle of white wine.
"Hope you don't mind me having a small drink," She asked in a small guilty tone. She knew some people would see that as the start of alcoholism, but she just liked a glass of wine every now and then. She pulled a glass out of a cabinet and filled it half way with wine. She set the bottle down and picked up her glass and sipped from it. She leaned against the counter and looked at Nicolette. "So... you're a singer, right?" Hélène asked curiously. "Mind if I ask what songs you've done. I might have heard you before, I barely pay attention to who sings."

Nicolette smiled as Helene handed her the Coke. She opened it, and took a sip. When Helene told her about that being the only soda she had, she shrugged. "It's fine, I really love Coke myself. It has good taste." She took another sip, and looked around. She was having a fine time so far, even though she was still wondering why Helene was on edge. She thought it'd be impolite to ask, so she just acted as if everything was alright.
When Helene took out the wine and asked her if she minded, Nicolette shook her head. "No, I don't mind. Sometimes I like a glass of wine myself, when i'm in the mood." She put her Coke down on the counter, taking another sip before she did so. She turned back to Helene when she asked her about her being a singer. "Yeah, I had a nice career in Quebec for almost 20 years. I started to get more well known in some other provinces and France, and started touring and promoting in those areas, but in my heart I was always a Quebec girl." She chuckled a little. When she was asked about her songs, she thought about it for a moment. "I did only French songs, which is why not many people outside of Canada speaking places knew who I was. I think the ones people most associate me with is Tout l'or des hommes, Contre nature, and Le temps qui compte. I don't know if you know those ones or not." She shrugged. ((Those are all Celine songs, but for the roleplay, we're gonna pretend all of these songs are Nicolette originals xD)) ((Tout l'or des hommes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgE6p3pIjEgContre nature: www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_-w8RmEH40Le temps qui compte: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oihGOdOim6I))
